Unit 3: Subtracting Decimals

Subtracting decimals requires similar steps to adding decimals.

94.5 - 0.67 = _________

Step 1: Set the problem up vertically. Put the larger number, or the number from which the second number is to be subtracted, above the second number, and then line up the decimals.

Step 2: Subtract and then bring the decimal straight down.

11. A patient is to receive 4.25 milligrams of a drug daily. The patient has already received 2.75 milligrams. What is his remaining dosage in milligrams?

12. Patient B is on a low fat diet. He weight 89.9 kilograms last month. This month he weighs 88.45 kilograms. How many kilograms has he lost?
