How to Write Each Paragraph

Paragraph One:

  • Begin with the name of the position that you are applying for.
  • Then mention how you have learned about this job.
  • Be enthusiastic about this job prospect and why you want to apply for this position.

Paragraph Two:

  • Describe your qualifications for the job—skills, talents, accomplishments and how you fit this specific job.  Avoid giving details that do not relate to the position that you are applying for.
  • Remember the audience - the hiring manager who will interview you and think about how to showcase your skills for this job.
  • Explain why you would be a great match for this position and show something that you know about the company and how you will fit in.

Paragraph Three:

  • Mention your enclosed or attached resume.
  • Request a time to discuss the application and give them your contact details for an easy way for the hiring manager to contact you.
  • Thank the person for reviewing and considering your application.
