General Overview

When can I start? Fall (September), Winter (January), or Spring (April)

How long is the program? 90 credits

6 full-time quarters (17 to 18 months with summers)
9 part-time quarters (25 to 27 months)

When do classes meet? Not all classes are offered every quarter and individual class times vary. FLEX, in-person, hybrid, and online options are available.

The Associate in Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP is a special transfer degree that prepares you for a four-year bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, dental hygiene, and other fields. This degree includes classes in writing, mathematics, lab science, humanities, and social sciences that you need to transfer to a university. You should research the admission and graduation requirements of your target universities to see if there are any specific classes that you need to take. You could attend the universities' info session.

The Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP is accepted by all major public and private universities in Washington (see the Transfer Destinations tab below), but this does not mean that you can enroll automatically in a baccalaureate program. Admission to pre-licensure nursing programs (BSN degrees) is competitive, which means that you must apply and be accepted and you need to take the TEAS test. How can you prepare?

Talk to an advisor or instructor to determine the course sequence that works best for you, including pathways for part-time enrollment.
Make a plan for your transfer application. You may need to apply to universities several months before you graduate from RTC.
Pay attention to class prerequisites! For example, the biology sequence takes four quarters.
- We recommend that you take anatomy and physiology towards the end of your degree, so that information is very fresh and recent when you enroll in a nursing program.
Be aware of which required classes are offered during each quarter:
- CHEM& 131 is offered summer and winter quarters.
- ENGL& 102 is offered fall, winter, and spring.
- All other required classes are offered every quarter.

To get the most out of your degree and higher chance of university acceptance, it is optimal to get a GPA higher than 2.0 in both core and other classes.

If you rent a textbook, make sure you return it by the deadline. If you purchase a textbook, you can sell it back to the RTC bookstore -- but make sure that you won't need the book again for classes in the future!

You must complete MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics for this degree.

If you plan to apply to the bachelor degree nursing program at the University of Washington - Seattle, you also need to take MATH& 107 Math in Society or MATH& 141 Precalculus I. Seattle University requires both MATH& 141 and MATH& 146.
