The bookstore has what you need in regards to materials so be sure to check it out! It is always better to be prepared than to wait last second to buy your materials!

General Overview

When can I start? Fall (September) [preferred] or Winter (January)

How long is the program? 3 quarters (9 months) with 33 credits

When do classes meet? Class times are different each quarter, but you should be available Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

The Mechanical Engineering Technology certificate is a specialty option within our computer drafting program - you will learn how to draw and model machine parts, including the use of SolidWorks software.

Note: This program does not teach you how to be a mechanical engineer. That job usually requires a four-year bachelor degree.

What is the average salary?

$63,660 annually in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area. Most mechanical drafters earn at least $47,010; there is a wide salary range. As you gain experience and promotions you will earn more.

Overall Materials Needed:

Access to a functioning laptop or computer (you may use computers in the RTC Library or Learning Resource Center)
Working internet connection
Textbooks and software (approximately $350)
USB drive or external hard drive, at least 500GB ($50)

If you rent a textbook, make sure you return it by the deadline. If you purchase a textbook, you can sell it back to the RTC bookstore -- but make sure that you won't need the book again for classes in the future!
