Transfer Math Pathways
Which statement is the best description for your situation?
I need any transfer math, but I want to review basic math first.
Note: The easiest transfer math class is MATH& 107 Math in Society. This is a basic statistics class.
You do not need to complete the Math DSP survey for these pathways. You can just enroll in AMATH 175 first.
3-quarter pathways starting in basic math
The first pathway is for MATH& 107 Math in Society or MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics.
- It requires 3 quarters and 15 total credits.
- You start in Financial Math, then take Financial Algebra, and finally enroll in your transfer math class, either MATH& 107 or MATH& 146.
- MATH& 107 is a basic statistics class. MATH& 146 is a comprehensive statistics class.
- You do not need to complete the Math DSP survey for this pathway. You can just enroll in AMATH 175.
The second pathway is for MATH&141 Precalculus.
- It is also 3 quarters but 17 total credits.
- MATH& 141 is an advanced algebra class. It requires more basic algebra than MATH&107 or MATH&146, which is why you need the additional CMATH 141 support class.
2-quarter pathway starting in basic math
This pathway requires 2 quarters and 12 total credits.
- You start in Financial Math.
- You need to earn a grade of 2.0 or higher in AMATH 175
- Then you can enroll in the corequisite support class CMATH 107 plus MATH& 107 Math in Society.
You also can enroll in CMATH 146 plus MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics after you complete AMATH 175 with a 2.0.
MATH& 146 is a more difficult and intensive class than MATH& 107, so you should consider the three-quarter pathway from AMATH 175 to AMATH 190 to MATH& 146.
I need any transfer math, and I studied algebra in the past.
If you are familiar with algebra, you should not start in AMATH 175!
2-quarter pathways
These pathways all start with AMATH 190 Financial Algebra. They are good choices if you want to review several concepts first and move slowly back into your math education
You do not need to complete the Math DSP survey for these 2-quarter pathways. You can just enroll in AMATH 190 first.
- You can take AMATH 190 and then MATH& 107 Math in Society.
- Math in Society is a basic statistics class.
- This is 2 quarters and 10 total credits.
- You can take AMATH 190 and then MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics.
- MATH& 146 is a comprehensive statistics class. It is more difficult than MATH& 107 and requires a stronger background in algebra than Math in Society does.
- This is 2 quarters and 10 total credits.
- You can take AMATH 190 and then MATH& 141 Precalculus I with CMATH 141.
- Precalculus is an advanced algebra class.
- CMATH 141 is a corequisite. It includes instruction in algebra to help you be successful in Precalculus I. This is 2 quarters and 12 total credits.
1-quarter pathways
These pathways put you directly into the transfer math class, with or without additional support.
If you took an algebra class within the past five years or you are confident about your ability to solve algebra problems, these might be good choices for you.

- You can enroll in MATH& 107 Math in Society for 5 total credits.
- This is a basic statistics class that looks at lots of examples in the real world.
- You can enroll in MATH& 141 Precalculus I for 5 total credits.
- This is an advanced algebra class. It focuses on functions: polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic.
- You should be familiar with equations, factoring, graphing, and solving for "x" before you enroll in MATH& 141.
- You can enroll in MATH& 141 Precalculus I with CMATH 141 for 7 total credits.
- CMATH 141 is called a corequisite.
- You will review some important algebra skills when you need them for precalculus.
- This is still 1 quarter but a total of 7 credits.
- You can enroll in MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics for 5 total credits.
- This is a comprehensive statistics class. It is more difficult than MATH& 107.
- You should have some experience with algebra before you enroll in MATH& 146.
- You can enroll in MATH& 146 with CMATH 146 for 7 total credits.
- CMATH 146 is called a corequisite.
- You will review some important algebra skills when you need them for statistics
- This is still 1 quarter but a total of 7 credits.

I need to complete MATH& 141 Precalculus I.
Precalculus I is an advanced algebra class.
Who needs to take MATH& 141?
- Precalculus is needed for the Associate in Business DTA/MRP.
- You need MATH& 141 before you can take MATH& 148 Business Calculus.
- You also may need this class as a prerequisite for calculus in the Associate in Computer Science DTA/MRP.
- After you take MATH& 141, you must complete MATH& 142 Precalculus II. Then you can enroll in MATH& 151 Calculus I.
- Associate in Nursing DTA/MRP students who plan to apply to the University of Washington should take MATH& 141 as one of their two elective classes.
3-quarter pathway
This pathway is for students who do not have any experience with algebra.
You do not need to complete the Math DSP survey for this pathway. You can just enroll in AMATH 175 first.
- It is 3 quarters but 17 total credits.
- You start in AMATH 175 Financial Math
- Then you take AMATH 190 Financial Algebra.
- Finally, you take MATH& 141 Precalculus I with a corequisite support class, CMATH 141.
- CMATH 141 shows you some advanced algebra topics when you need them for precalculus.
2-quarter pathway
This pathway is for students who have some experience with algebra. You may want to review several concepts first and move slowly back into your math education.
You do not need to complete the Math DSP survey for this pathway. You can just enroll in AMATH 190 first.
- You start in AMATH 190 Financial Algebra.
- Then you take MATH& 141 Precalculus I with a corequisite support class, CMATH 141.
- CMATH 141 shows you some advanced algebra topics when you need them for precalculus.
- This pathway is 2 quarters and 12 total credits.
1-quarter pathways
If you have a strong foundation in algebra, you have two options.

- You can MATH& 141 Precalculus I with a corequisite support class, CMATH 141.
- CMATH 141 shows you some advanced algebra topics when you need them for precalculus.
- This option is 1 quarter and 7 total credits.
- You can take MATH& 141 Precalculus I by itself.
- This is 1 quarter and 5 total credits.
I need to complete MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics.
MATH& 146 is a comprehensive statistics class.
It is the required math class for pre-nursing students. It is also needed for the Associate in Business DTA/MRP, the Associate in Computer Science DTA/MRP, and some AAS-T degrees in Health and Human Services.
3-quarter pathway
This is a good option if you do not have any experience with algebra or you want to move very slowly with your mathematics education. Most students do not choose this pathway.
You do not need to complete the Math DSP survey for this pathway. You can just enroll in AMATH 175 first.
- You start in Financial Math, then take Financial Algebra, and finally enroll in your transfer math class, MATH& 146.
- This pathway requires 3 quarters and 15 total credits.
2-quarter pathway
This is a good option if you have studied algebra at some point, every 30 years ago. You may want to review algebra and other math topics before you take Statistics.
You do not need to complete the Math DSP survey for this pathway. You can just enroll in AMATH 190 first.
- First, you take AMATH 190.
- You need to earn a grade of 2.0 or high.
- Then you can take MATH& 146 Introduction to Statistics.
- This is 2 quarters and 10 total credits.
1-quarter pathways
This is a good option if you have studied algebra, you are confident about your math skills, and you will be able to dedicate a lot of time to your math class.
