What is I-BEST?
You may see (I-BEST) next to some of our programs. This page explains what that means and how I-BEST can support your success.
What does I-BEST mean?
I-BEST is an abbreviation for Integrated Basic Education Skills and Training. The program was developed here in Washington State and provides additional instructional support in math, reading, writing, and academic study skills.
An I-BEST program offers additional instruction and support, with two or more instructors in your classroom. One is the program instructor, who knows all of the career content and skills. The other teacher is an expert in math, reading, writing, and study skills. They work together to help students succeed in the program. As an I-BEST student, you will receive more support than in a traditional college program. Both instructors teach together but focus on different skills. The Program instructor focuses on skills needed for the industry, while the CCP instructor teaches skills like math, reading, and writing to help students be successful in the program and in the industry.
What are the advantages of I-BEST?
Instead of taking basic classes in math and English and then enrolling in a program, you can do both at the same time! This means less time in school and a faster pathway to your new career.
Because they receive extra support, I-BEST students complete their certificates and degrees at higher rates.
I-BEST students may be eligible for the Opportunity Grant Links to an external site., depending on the program. For students who don not have a high school diploma or GED, you may be eligible to access financial aid if you are enrolled in an I-BEST program through Ability to Benefit. Contact Financial Aid Links to an external site. for more information.
