HOME PAGE This is the main page of every course; you can easily go to other parts of the course from here. |
MODULES Sections of a course, like chapters or units of a book. Click on the modules tab: Then you can see what's coming up in your course and keep track of your progress:

NAVIGATION BAR (Nav. Bar) Located on the left, this shows different areas of a course. They vary depending on the kind of course your instructor has set up. |
SYLLABUS TAB This is where the course outline and expectations are for each course. It also contains the assignments and due dates at the bottom. |
HELP TAB Located on the lower left in every course, you can get info on how to use Canvas as well as RTC resources and student services: |
COURSE COMPONENTS
PROFILE Your personal space. Set up your email and notifications, upload your photo, bio, and to keep your badges and best work. |
Grades Your course grades can be found within each course. You are also notified when you have been graded on your dashboard. |
CALENDAR The calendar has all your assignments listed. As a student, you can also add your own reminders for yourself. |
POST to a DISCUSSION FORUM Discussion assignments have the discussion icon: Discussions are where you share your ideas with others in the class. A discussion forum is an online participation area where you can "post" your ideas: 1. Click "reply" on the left. |
SUBMIT an assignment Assignments have the A+ icon: Click the "submit assignment" tab on the upper right. There are many types of submissions; papers, websites, and even recordings and videos: |
Take a Quiz Quizzes (which may be called tests or practice quizzes or surveys) have a "Q" icon like this:
Your instructor will give you instructions for each quiz. Note that quizzes are sometimes timed, or must be completed within a certain timeframe. Online and hybrid courses may require you to download and use Lockdown Browser for your quizzes. |
COMMUNICATIONS
CONVERSATIONS Canvas messages to and from instructors or classmates are called "Conversations".You will receive them via email or. if you set up your preferences for it, via text messaging as well. |
ANNOUNCEMENTS Important updates from your teacher can be seen in "Announcements." You may also set up your notifications so that announcements arrive on your phone or via personal email. |
