General Overview
When can I start? Fall (September), Winter (January), Spring (March), or Summer (July)
How long is the program?
- 6 quarters (up to 22 months) with 90 total credits
- 7+ quarters with 95+ credits if you need to take math prerequisites
When do classes meet? Not all classes are offered every quarter and individual class times vary. FLEX, in-person, hybrid, and online options are available
The Associate in Computer Science DTA/MRP is a special transfer degree that prepares you for a four-year bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, media design, or software development. This degree includes classes in mathematics, computer programming, lab science, humanities, and social sciences that you need to transfer to a university. You should research the admission and graduation requirements of your target university to see if there are any specific classes that you need to take.
The Computer Science DTA/MRP is accepted by all major public and private universities in Washington (see the Transfer Destinations tab below), but this does not mean that you can enroll automatically in a baccalaureate computer science program. Admission to computer science programs is competitive, which means that you must apply and be accepted. How can you prepare?
- Consult the Computer Science DTA/MRP Advising Notes Download Advising Notes for recommendations based on transfer destinations.
- Talk to an advisor or instructor to determine the course sequence that works best for you, including pathways for part-time enrollment.
- Make a plan for your transfer application. You may need to apply to universities several months before you graduate from RTC.
- Pay attention to class prerequisites! Math is required to take programming and engineering physics.
- Learn more about math and English placement options, so you can get to your degree classes as soon as possible.
- Strongly consider taking the recommended humanities and social science classes in the sequences below. These classes were chosen because they automatically transfer as distribution credit to most universities.
Who can I contact with questions?
- New students, please visit our Zoom lobby (Links to an external site.) to talk with someone by video chat, or e-mail our advising department.
- For current students, please visit RTC's advising page (Links to an external site and look for the faculty counselor assigned to Associate in Computer Science under Transfer Degree Options.
