An anesthesia technologist prepares the operating room and all anesthesia equipment for surgery. You will study medical terminology, pharmacology, EKG analysis, anesthesia equipment, and applications to prepare for intensive clinical experiences in local hospitals. At the end of the program, you are ready to take the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) certification Links to an external site. exam.

Note: You must complete your ANES classes with a grade of 2.7 or higher. COL 101 and General Education classes require a grade of 2.0.

Description: This initial quarter emphasizes correct practices and maintenance of anesthesia technology, along with human anatomy and medical terminology. You also complete your transfer English class. Learn more about placement for ENGL&101.

Quarter 2 Classes

Description: This quarter covers safety and crisis management protocols in the operating room, along with the preparation and use of anesthesia equipment. You also learn pharmacology: identifying and knowing what classified drugs to administer to a patient. Finally, if you need to, you will take a prerequisite for your transfer math class. You may be able to take MATH& 146 without a prerequisite. There are several placement options or ways to enroll in this math class.

Quarter 3 Classes

Description: You improve your knowledge of medical terminology and advanced pharmacology and have an introduction to phlebotomy to safely draw blood from adults and children. You also learn to identify cardiac anatomy, interpret common heart arrhythmias, analyze electrocardiograms, and operate EKG equipment in normal and rapid response, crisis situations.

Quarter 4 Classes

Description: You will build on skills learned in Quarter 2 and ANES 103 with advanced anesthesia competencies. You also learn about legal and ethical issues in healthcare, including medical malpractice laws, HIPAA, and appropriate patient relationships. This is the quarter to take your transfer mathematics class, too.

Quarter 5 Classes

Description: This quarter introduces you to CPR for children and adults. Your lab classes will improve your abilities with blood management; cell salvage; balloon pump management and care; advanced rapid response to airway management crisis; and hemodynamic monitoring equipment set up, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
